Did you know that on average it costs the Make-A-Wish Foundation $6,000 to grant just one Wish?
In our 14 years, we have raised $166,400 for the Maine Make-a-Wish Foundation; effectively granting over 20 wishes for Maine children, and by extension, their families. As we approach our 15th outing on August 19, 2023, I would like to invite you to take part in our storied tournament.
In the tournament’s inaugural year (2009), we had 15 teams of all ages compete on the wiffle ball field to raise money for the Make A Wish Foundation of Maine. Prior to the start of the tournament, the opening pitch was thrown out by a Bangor family, who, being recipients of a past wish, understood the importance of this valuable fundraising effort.
After the opening ceremonies wrapped, 80 players across 15 teams took to the field to determine a winner and establish bragging rights. Finally, the dust settled after 39 games (there was no dust, it poured all day thanks to Tropical Storm Danny), with the Patten Slingers earning the crown of the first-ever tournament champions, and Make-A-Wish of Maine receiving $2,000 towards a child’s wish.
Since our humble beginnings in 2009, we have gone on to raise $166,440 for the Make-A-Wish foundation of Maine. At an average cost of $6,000 per wish, that means we have been able to grant over 20 wishes for Children in Maine.
